This series features twelve videos filmed in 2023. Thot year more precipitation fell in California than at any time for several decades, making an ideal timeframe for our first video series launch.
This series of short one-minute videos helps introduce learning topics from HydroFathom, provides previews of newly released longer videos, and gives quick glimpses of material meant to improve the viewers knowledge of water. Meant to be fun, interesting, beautiful and light while staying informative, the format allows Hydrofathom to quickly touch base daily with our followers and supporters. New releases are planned starting in late 2024.
California has over 1300 lakes and reservoirs, with most being reservoirs or human-made, like Lake Isabella shown here at it's 2023 peak. HydroFathom began exploring these reservoirs during our 2023 Watershed Series of videos. Now, we are slowly documenting the major reservoirs in California as listed in Wikipedia, one of our favorite resource tools. Please donate to Wikepedia. Their sortable list allows a user to sort by several fields like "volume." Sorting by owner unveils the use of the water. The United States Bureau of Reclamation and the Corp of Engineers primarily have reservoirs for agricultural needs, especially on the east side of the San Joaquin Valley. The Department of Water Resources operates distribution of houses and the western part of the state. Southern California Edison and Pacific Gas and Electric operate reservoirs for hydropower, including the aptly named Lake Thomas Edison.
